Cornflower Blue

I. Definition

"Cornflower Blue" is a blue color with a slight purple tint, giving a unique hazy, velvety texture. It gets its name from its similarity to the blue of the cornflower, the national flower of Germany. Similar to "Royal Blue", "Cornflower Blue" is not restricted by origin, and sapphires with a "Cornflower Blue" rating can potentially be produced in every origin.

II. Development History

GUILD Gem Laboratory has always been focused on the testing of colored gemstones, especially the optimization treatment, color grading, and origin research of emeralds, rubies, and sapphires.

Standardization: Currently, there is no unified color grading standard for sapphires internationally. Each major laboratory has its own color grading system, which is constantly being improved and updated. GUILD Gem Laboratory has conducted decades of research on sapphires. By comprehensively considering various factors such as origin, color, and clarity, it issues the commercial name "Cornflower Blue" for sapphire colors that meet the criteria. This is part of the Vivid Blue and Intense Blue in the GUILD sapphire color grading system. In line with its consistent rigorous attitude and respect for high - quality colored gemstones, in the GUILD sapphire color grading system, "Cornflower Blue" is not restricted by origin. Any Vivid Blue or Intense Blue sapphire with a unique velvety texture has the potential to receive a "Cornflower Blue" rating.

Marketization: The commercial name "Cornflower Blue" has been accepted and appreciated by end - consumers worldwide and has become a global standard. Almost all international gem laboratories recognize and use "Cornflower Blue" to describe the color of certain characteristic sapphires.

III. Evaluation Criteria

Medium (Medium)
Intense (Strong)
Vivid (Bright)

Deep (Dark)

Cornflower sapphires were first produced in Kashmir, India. "Cornflower Blue" is not restricted by origin. Any Vivid Blue or Intense Blue sapphire with a unique velvety texture has the potential to receive a "Cornflower Blue" rating.
